Also, I've noticed here in my own little town in Indiana, that the old ladies with no use for the internet get 3MB connections while I'm physically stuck with some low end DSL with 350ms lag to the next state over. And this phenomenon in CONSTANT.
Since you're 15 years old, I'm going to assume you've never used dial-up internet before. 56K is the fastest dial-up internet connection. It uses up your phone line when you're online, which is why DSL and cable are an improvement, because while DSL uses your phone line, neither tech prevents you from making and receiving phone calls (which dial-up does, if you didn't catch that).
56K is NOT the same as 56 kiloBYTES per second. It's 56 kiloBITS per second. That's a maximum download speed of 7 kilobytes per second, but typically you'd get more like 3-5 kilobytes per second.
VERY VERY SLOW by today's standards, however some areas of the world/country/etc don't have access to broadband internet (dsl/cable) and thus ONLY have access to dial-up connectivity.
Hahaha!!!! That's seriously funny. Once you've had fast internet, you never go back. I once spent 2 or so hours wandering around with my laptop at my grandparent's house in South Washington, and wanted to make a break for it when I found no one in town even had Wi-fi... Small towns are indeed scary...
*laughs so hard she pisses her pants* I can actually relate to this, infact i relate to alot of your Head trip comics because im from a small town and the way you portray yourself and your sister sounds alot like me and
my best friend....Its fucken hilarious i love this shit! (well its not shit, just a termenology sorry)
This is great. I live in a town of about 500 people (in Nebraska) and it took us forever to find a place that would hook us up with DSL. And just to tell ya, I just happened across your gallery a bit ago and I've been reading through your comics, they're fabulous. = )
